Some things bug me ~ and some things don't

Last night I was talking to Lindsey on the phone when her boyfriend Dave and Gabriel drove up in front of our house. Lindsey wondered what they were doing there, because she was in the middle of making dinner and had sent him to the grocery to pick up a few things!
Well, Dave unloaded Gabriel from his car seat and helped him deliver these…

It was a super sweet gesture!!

Because Gabriel cannot articulate his feelings yet – remember he’s still at ‘oof oof oof’ talking to the puppies on his p-jams? – Dave simply said, in his best ventriloquist for Gabriel voice “here Nana these are for watching me when mommy & Dave were on vacation!”

Don't they look like they were having fun?

Wow, I told Lindsey that I already liked Dave & he didn’t need to bribe me with flowers.

This is what bugs me – Lindsey had been married to a creep very immature man boy, who did sire her children, and for that I will be eternally grateful, however, he never brought me flowers!!
He, come to think of it, never brought Lindsey flowers!!

Dave definitely doesn’t bug me!

Until next time…

Morning Conversations

I was awakened this morning, the first time with “Mom, the boys are here!!” being shouted up the stairs. Shit, I overslept.

Luckily I was able to get the boys back to sleep, Gabriel all cozied up in his crib and Cayden snuggled in between Nana & Papa.
I was awakened later by Gabriel. I heard his sweet voice, having a conversation, “oof – oof – oof” as he is barking to the puppies on his p-jams. So cute.
I looked at the alarm clock. Shit, I overslept – again!

I called in to work to let them know I was running behind. That is never a good conversation to have with your boss 5 minutes before you’re supposed to be at work!!

After showering, dressing myself, I got Gabe ready for daycare! Our conversation went something like: “come here Gabriel” I gave him the once over with the baby wipes, new diaper, “stay put Gabriel” on with the jeans, (now take them off), snap the onesie – “sit still Gabriel” , back on with the jeans (over the onesie this time), socks “Pew, stinky” (as I sniff his adorable little feet to make him giggle), put on his sneaks – “good job Gabriel”. He is always so happy in the morning, not much help with dressing….but, happy.

Now, next is Cayden. I go scoop him up, carry him downstairs, pull off his puppy p-jams (they dress alike a lot), change his diaper – he’s beginning to wake up, not a morning person (a lot like Nana). He asks me “Nana, is it morning-time?” I answer “yes, unfortunately it is”. I put on his jeans and his brand new shirt with the gecko’s that change colors when exposed to sunlight – mommy brought it back from her vacation. I put on his socks & sneaks and then he asks me “Nana, can you pick me up from Cara’s today?” I tell him “your mommy will pick you up today but, that Nana will come over to your house when I get off of work”, he says, “Okay”. I put on his jacket and he asked me, “Nana, can I bring all of my aminals (I didn’t spell it wrong, that’s how he says it) to Cara’s – even my dolphin?” I say “certainly”, we brought them all! On the way to the car he asks “where is Papa”, I tell him “Papa is at work”, he says, “I want to see Papa”. I tell him “I’ll bring Papa when I come over after work”, he says, “okay”. We continue chattering all the way to Cara’s house. He woke up in a good mood today and we had a nice conversation!

Life is good!

Until next time…

Not Me Monday

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

The week of babysitting Cayden and Gabriel has come to an end. Their mommy, Lindsey (& Dave), got home from the Bahama’s cruise yesterday!

During her absence Kevin & I had a great time (mostly) with the boys.

I did not entertain the boys by allowing them to play (and get their clothes really dirty) in a big pile of dirt – which happens to be right next to a 3 foot trench (which, thankfully they didn’t fall into) – No, Not Me!!

I did not let Cayden pick whatever he wanted for lunch and ultimately serve him cheese sandwiches made on angelfood cake! And I would never allow Gabriel to use the steak knife to cut his corn dogs up with just to avoid another screaming fit (I mean, cute little tantrum, which would only make my already bad headache worse)!! No, Not Me!

I didn’t stay in my p.j.’s, and keep Cayden adorned in just his diaper – and Gabe in a t-shirt while wearing Papa’s Harley Cap - on Saturday because we wanted to be cozy all day. …No, Not Us!!

I did not put Gabriel into the laundry bag, because it was super funny and made us all laugh looking at him through it. He loved being swung from papa to his mommy...laughter filled the room. We'd never put the funniest baby in the world into the laundry bag for our selfish humor. Nope, Not Us!

And, we would NEVER take a trip to Saint Paul (3 hours in the car with two little children) just for dinner and to spend an exorbanent amount of money just to see our fantastic 3rd born son Dayton and enjoy the wonderful food offered at his restaurant...okay, it's not his - but, he is a contributing chef there! I would NEVER spend $5.50 for a beer, and DEFINATLEY not 3!! No Not Me!

We would not continue to pray for Stellan and the whole MckFamily every day (except we do). I don't think about Stellan, Jennifer, Prince Charming, and the other many small children almost too often...No Not Me!

There, I've been brutally honest and think you should do the same! It's so refreshing to unload like that, almost theraputic!! :) Have a great week!

Until next time...

Crazy Knife Wielding Scavenger

Weird. Really – it was…

Twice a year Waste Management (our garbage collection company) offers “city wide clean up”. Well, thankfully they do – because twice a year (although it could be more often) is a good start to cleaning out all of my years and years of acquired clutter!

Anyhoo… I started making a pile on the front boulevard: old car seat, broken highchair, small refrigerator (which would be perfect for your garage – hopefully someone picks it up, it is in working condition – or else they will charge me to take it!) … back to the point…I made a large pile of stuff. Cayden & Gabriel were being so ‘helpful’ while I carried stuff out. They rode their bikes and played with the ‘garbage’ – who knew that the exer-saucer is still a fun toy even after they’ve outgrown it!

I brought the boys inside for a bite to eat and while slicing the Velveeta (they love cheese) I noticed a “crazy knife wielding scavenger”…rummaging through my neighbor’s pile of stuff that they’d put out on their lawn! She really did have a knife! I wasn’t really weirded out at that point, but then I noticed the “crazy knife wielding scavenger”… moving to my other neighbor’s pile, the neighbor right NEXT DOOR to me. Again, out comes her knife. Did I mention that she had a big knife – now that it was closer, I noticed just exactly how big it was!! I observed her…she was cutting the electrical cords off of all appliances, toasters, hair dryers, steam/vacuum cleaners, anything with a cord…. And, now she was moving towards my REFRIGERATOR !!

REMEMBER – IT STILL WORKS (and would be so perfect for your garage – for SOMEONE to pick up and take home and love – REMEMBER …. or else I get charged by Waste Management for them to take it!!)

“NO…”CRAZY KNIFE WEILDING SCAVENGER”….YOU CANNOT CUT THE CORD OFF OF MY REFRIGERATOR!!”…. After all, it’s MY garbage – right?? Okay, I’m thinking to myself – self - who’s the crazy one now… Well, I told her – scared her off to the next pile across the street. My refrigerator complete with cord – untouched!

Okay…it gets better – or weirder, however you look at it....

I evidently wasn’t the ONLY one who noticed her knife – someone else called the authorities! The next thing I noticed are 2 Sherriff cars, 2 City Police cars – 4 officers total – AND the neighbor (who lives across the street, who coincidently is also a Sherriff) all of whom are now out chatting with the “crazy knife wielding scavenger!”

She, apparently, was not merely a “crazy knife wielding scavenger” …rather she was a “crazy knife wielding scavenging recycler” and was collecting electrical cords to recycle the copper inside the wires!

So, the authorities made sure that she was NOT the one who recently ‘knocked off’ our cities water department – taking all of the copper wires from all of the water pumps at our water maintenance facility. Evidently she wasn’t that crazy – and so, much to Cayden’s dismay they let her go – he really wanted to see all those police use their handcuffs…but, that’s an altogether different post!!

Until next time…

Aloha Friday #4

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. The An Island Life blog has a tradition to take it easy with posting, too. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, as well. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My question is:
How do you get followers to your blog?

Cayden

My grandson Cayden had his dentist appointment yesterday (which I’ll discuss in another post), at the operating room – because of his heart condition…

Cayden was born with a heart condition – namely, Aortic Valve Stenosis, he was diagnosed when he was just a few minutes old.

His cardiologist, Dr. Stamato, is a wonderful pediatric cardiologist here at Sioux Valley Children’s Clinic in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She has always explained everything about Cayden’s condition very thoroughly to us so we fully understand. She is patient with us and the millions of questions we initially asked and she continues to work closely with our local Sanford doctors to make certain they are abreast of what is going on with Cayden also.

I recall several scary moments that my daughter went through with Cayden, when he was so tiny. The procedures, the possibility of immediate surgery, the tests… And I remember wondering ‘why him’? why her? And, looking back – I realize it was (and continues to be) in God’s hands.

Cayden has regular cardiology check-ups and they will continue to monitor his valve, heart and overall condition, and Cayden will someday have to have a procedure done – called Balloon Valvuloplasty you can read more about it here

I like the way Dr. Stamato explained it…”I don’t have a crystal ball, he may have the procedure when he’s six, or sixteen or sixty – or something in between, but he will have to have something done – we just don’t know when”. We pray it is much later, when he’s older, rather than sooner.

I just read MckMama’s latest post “Peace in the storm” – I just think how unfair life seems sometimes. Little Stellan is a trooper and he’s heading to Boston! I will continue to pray for his recovery as I’d like to request you do the same!

I pray that all parents of children with heart conditions (or any condition – for that matter) can find MckMama's “Peace in the storm”!

Until next time…
Carol
