Aloha Friday #10
Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. The An Island Life blog has a tradition to take it easy with posting, too. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, as well. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.
If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!
To answer Kailani's question...
I love the sunshine in summer. The beaches, laying in the sun and riding my motorcycle! Love summer!!!
My question for this week is:
What is the sure fire way to get an employer to take your resume seriously??

Unimaginable...
Are you effing kidding me??
What kind of person prey’s on others sympathies by misleading them about a sick baby?? Seriously, what is up with that?? I honestly am aghast!
I pray for her!
You know what I mean - if not, read about it here!
Until next time…

I'd like to write for Grands Magazine or maybe a travel magazine! How fun to write about the worlds best beaches!!
My question for this week is:
If you had the opportunity to meet fellow bloggers in person would you do it?? Any blogger in particular you'd like to meet? What would you talk about?

Did last night last only 5 minutes?
I’m tired, exhausted, drained, beat – no, really…
Kevin, Tyler & I were enjoying a beer after work last night and trying to decide what we wanted for dinner when Tyler got a phone call from his supervisor at work, “we need you in Atlanta tomorrow” was what he told him. We thought he’d be home all summer, but there is a repair job and they need him!
Okay, so we go online, book the airline ticket and start laundry. The evening became longer than normal *sigh*
After the ticket has been secured and the ‘checklist’ of things he needs is run through, he realized that his company badge and his hardhat and his phone charger is in his truck, which, coincidently was taken to the repair shop to get a dent fixed earlier in the day. We called the repair shop (at 11:45pm) hoping someone might be working late – unfortunately not. We, our neighbor who used to be married to the repair guy’s brother, called the repair guy at home (about 12 times) no answer! So, I called the secretary of the repair guy at home (I apologized over and over and over again). She met us at the repair shop so Ty could collect his stuff!.
Kevin will be taking him to the airport – hey, I think right outluod “I bet Cayden would love to go to the airport and see the airplanes”, there I go suggesting things again….Lindsey brought Cayden over, he’s going to go along!
I played with the very wound up Cayden &let him use permanent marker, I folded laundry, packed Ty’s suitcase and got everybody tucked into bed.
The alarm went off at 3:30, I woke up Cayden, got him dressed and popped him into the carseat. The car is loaded and off they go to the airport.
I snuggled back into bed and reset the alarm for 5:30 so when Lindsey arrives to drop off Gabriel, I can use her car to drive her to work so I have a vehicle to take Gabriel to daycare and get myself to work. I get back from dropping her at work, reset the alarm for (the third time) 7:00 so I can get up & ready for work. Gabriel (thankfully) fell back to sleep in Nana’s bed!
I was awakened by the ringing phone, Cayden LOVED the airport. We have no photographic evidence, because Kevin left the extra batteries in the camera case in the car and didn’t realize the ones in the camera were dead until they were in the terminal!
They hung out in the airport for a while and then Kevin & Cayden said their goodbyes to Tyler and headed back home.
Kevin took Cayden to Lowe’s to look for pond lighting, stopped at the Harley Davidson shop in Albert Lea and then called to say they were about 90 miles from home!
Then, about 10 minutes later Kevin called me and said they were headed back to the airport! Tyler’s plane was broken down and he wouldn’t be flying on it. When he told his boss that he couldn’t make it today, the boss said to just get there by Sunday!
So after jumping through hoops, racing around like crazy people, waking people in the night to unlock doors in order for Tyler to arrive in Atlanta today, Tyler switched his flight, called his dad who turned around & headed back to the cities to pick him back up.
Tyler now will be home until Sunday – which, ain’t all bad! Man, I love that kid!
Did I mention that I’m tired!?
Well, it’s my life!
Until next time…

List of 8 ~ with a BONUS!
1. We (Kevin & I) got a new entertainment surround sound system from our son Tyler for our anniversary. It’s an early gift – our anniversary is in 2 weeks. 26 years – wow, time flies!! We didn’t get it hooked up yet because we need an extra thing-a-ma-jig to get it working (I’m super technical, as you can tell). We’re glad that Tyler will be spending (hopefully) the majority of the summer with us!! He is thinking about getting his motorcycle permit so he can ride our ‘extra’ Harley!
Thanks Ty! I love you! As you can see, Istole borrowed a picture of yours from Facebook!!
2. We snuggled both boys this morning in our bed. It is “normal” for Cayden to crawl in between Nana & Papa, but this morning Gabriel was fussy (which is NOT “normal” for him – he’s usually always happy) so we popped him in with us too! I love those guys – even if I wake up with milk in my hair from their bottles &/or sippy cups!
3. We have three Harley Davidson motorcycles. A 2003 Hundred Anniversary Edition 883 Sportster (she is for sale – if anybody is interested $6,600 {that's sooo ChEEp); a 2003 Hundred Anniversary Edition 1200 Sportster and a 2005 Dyna Super Glide. I get to ride “whichever one I want” – ‘cause, I pay for them! I love my bikes. This is one of my favorite places to shop.
4. My gas light in my Durango came on again today. I have gotten used to the dinging of the ‘low wash’ light but today I heard two dings – and notice the gas light on again. That car is such a gas guzzler, but, it’s paid for so I can’t justify trading it in and having another car payment! I hate payments!
5. I’m two days behind in my invoicing, that’s not uncommon at the beginning of the month! I guess I should just get used to being behind – my vacation is coming up (July 31 – August 9, I’m going to Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota). There is nobody here in the office who knows how to do invoicing, close day procedures or month end and getting statements out. My boss told me yesterday that he thinks it might be okay if I close the month of July after the 30th so it is done and statements are ready to go before I leave on vacation….ugh….I was hoping SOMEONE would step up and learn the procedures so I’d not have a 6 day pile up of invoices when I return…no luck – evidently!
6. It is a sunny day and tonight I’m going to try to finally get our trench dug. We’re digging a trench between the house and garage so that we can run a gas line out their so it stays warm in winter for my Harley’s! Kevin won’t let me bring them into the house for winter – imagine that?? We started digging the trench last September, and it’s time to finish it wouldn’t you think!
7. I am so not ready for my Lia Sophia party on Saturday, I was hoping that it would be warm weather and I’d have the party out on the deck. Well, according to Kevin (who watches the Weather Channel – ALL the time) it’s going to be cold and rainy on Saturday morning. So, I have a house to clean, laundry to fold, dishes to do, counters to clear off – oh man, that’s going to take forever – any offers of assistance would be greatly appreciated! At any rate, if you’ve taken a look at their site and see something you simply cannot live without, pop me an e-mail and I’ll gladly take your order!
8. Our recycling can is usually fuller than our actual garbage can. I can take full responsibility – my beloved Amber Boch bottles take up a lot of room. Maybe this is where I should enter a ‘list within a list’ of my favorite beers/drinks: Michelob Amber Boch (tied in first place with a Screwdriver – not picky about the Vodka, but Absolut is good), Leinenkugel 1888 Boch, New Belgium Fat Tire, Modello, Corona (with a lime), Leinenkugel Caramel Boch, New Belgium 1554. That list within a list WAS the bonus – so, if you were looking for something extra special cool as the bonus, I’m sorry I’ve disappointed you!!
Until next time...
Carol
Thanks Ty! I love you! As you can see, I

Who knew who you'd meet?
When I’m driving in my car from work to home or home to work I have a hundred of blog post ideas running around in my head…Then I sit down in front of the keyboard and cannot recall one of them!
Weird – I am too!
Okay, well one thing I do want to do is blog a bit about some really interesting, talented, very special and bright people, none of whom I know IRL (in real life) but I know they’re cool because I “met” them in bloggysphere!
One of my favorite blogs to read is written by Beth Fletcher, she’s an amazing photographer – I wish I had 1/2 the talent that she has in just her little finger. She has two super adorable children! You’ll have to check out her blog today and enter her giveaway, a $100 gift card from Land’s End!
Another that I read daily is authored by Stephanie, an extremely talented writer!!
She is a ‘babywearing’ mommy who simply adores her sons & her little baby girl. I really think you should check out her writings!
And then there is MckMama, yeah she’s amazing. The mother of 4 small children, the youngest one with a heart condition, you can read about Stellan on her blog! This family is pretty amazing, I kind of wish I had known her when I was raising my own 3 children all those years ago. I am, however, able to take some of the information from her blog now and apply it to my grandson’s who, as you know, are a HUGE part of my life!
I know, I know, I should make some bloggy friends my own age, but, I am truly fascinated by these young wives and mothers!
There are a few other blogs I follow also, mostly so I can help to lift these little ones up in prayer! Go share their stories Little April Rose, Jonah and Noah. I know God will continue to watch over them!
Okay, I guess that’s all I’ve got today!
Until next time.
Carol

Fishy Fishy Fishy
Memorial Weekend plans changed, we didn’t go camping, it was kind of rainy & cool, and Gabe had pink eye (and, Papa got it too – Gabe shared!), but we did go fishing.
We fished at Fox Lake, and caught nothing but Cayden found some dead minnows which were ‘fishy’ enough for him!
We fished at the Des Moines River (at Ashley Park), and Cayden ‘caught’ his first ever fish. A Bullhead…it was spotty dotty – and we threw him back into the river.
We fished at Loon Lake, and Cayden ‘caught’ his second fish. A Bullhead…it was pretty nice, we would have kept it, if we would have caught enough for a meal, but it was the only catch of the day – so we threw him back into the lake.
Better luck next time...but, for his first ‘fishing weekend’ Uncle Ty helped Cayden catch 2 fish!
And an amazing thing happened over the weekend.
I (with a LOT of help from Kevin) got the fish pond cleaned out.
We’re on the hunt for underwater lighting – anybody know where we can get our hands on some?? As soon as we get the lighting in place we can fill it up and go find some fish. I think we’ll try to find a Koi this year!
So, there you have it – all the fish stories!
Until next time…

To answer Kailani's question...First - congrats on the new baby girl!!
Favorite little girl name Savannah - yep, definately Savannah
My question for this week is:
In honor of Memorial weekend my question is about camping? Do you go camping? In a tent or camper?
I'm a tent camper all the way!! Big air mattress and lots of marshmellows!! I love camping!!! (even if it rains!)

Post Script
Okay...so, I'm not a professional - I DID smell something that to me smelled like smoke. Evidently when there are 90 mile per hour winds and the back door of the warehouse is open and the traffic through the front of the store is heavy things blow around in here. Maybe it wasn't smoke at all I smelled! It could have been corn dust, powder medicines (feed additives) or just plain something blowing in from somewhere else! So you'll all be happy to know that the building didn't burn down over night which is kind of sucky because I don't get a couple of days off to ride my Harley good!
I wanted to participate in the You Capture that is hosted by Beth at http://www.ishouldbefoldinglaundry.com/ today - the topic is "sweet"!! I just didn't get a picture of Gabriel eating a Smore which to him was "sweet" but the clean up for his mommy was not so "sweet"! He is so cute!!
And, that's all I've got.
Until next time...

I'm not a professional - but, something IS burning!
I went on a date today with my wonderful husband. Thank goodness we don’t have any groceries in the house, well, besides soup – & really, who eats soup when it’s 90 degrees outside?
Lunch at my favorite place in town, Bridget’s Bucksnorts Brew-Ha-Ha and Grill, was great. He had the fish sandwich, they got new fish – it was HUGE and hung way over the bun. I had the chislix with toast & chips. I took 4 bites of chislix, three chips and because I don’t eat bread - that’s what Kevin will have for dinner tonight (well, he'll finish the chislix also - I only had 4 bites)!
Shirley was our waitress, she didn’t drive her new-to-her Harley to work because of the wind. She was afraid it would get sandblasted – it’s super windy – excellent choice to leave it parked at home in the garage!
Kevin & I talked about our grandkid(s) (specifically the new one which will be here in January) and I got a new sweatshirt from Bridget – a new shipment came in today and she’s giving every employee one! Lunch went by very quickly, however, I got to hold my hand on Kevin’s knee the whole time we ate lunch – it was super nice!!
We’re going to forget that last night turned out like it did! Honey, I love you and I know we’re just fine – broken goose and all!
And, when our date was finished I had to come back to work for the afternoon. I’m not a professional but…there is something burning here at the office. I smelled it right away, I have a great nose for smelling stuff – it’s not always such an asset! I alerted M.R. the salesman, he smelled it also, but we cannot locate it’s origin. He alerted B.H. he too smells it but cannot figure out where it’s coming from!! Should we call the boss? Something ALWAYS goes wrong when he’s gone!! Hope the building doesn’t burn down tonight – that would bekind of cool then I could have a few days off to ride my Harley bad!!
Like I said, “I’m not a professional” and, trust me, it’s NOT asteamy, sultry, scorching hot, burning sizzling office romance either – something’s burning!
Just a post script from yesterday’s post – I didn’t get the pond drained and cleaned last night…I used the boys as an excuse – it was just that, an excuse!! I’ll get it done tonight. Promise!
If you haven't already make sure you send your "hoping in pink" photos to hopinginpink@gmail.com for Little April Rose! If you don't know April you can check out her mom's blog here!
Until next time…

What's going on in my head?
I've got a million things going on inside my head, interestingly enough, I didn't think my head could hold that much, but, anyway - I would like to put it out here and then it's out!
Item 1. I need a change.
I got to work this morning and I really just don't want to be here! It is the second beautiful day in a row and I think I should be out riding my Harley. I even went so far as to tell my boss that he and I both should play hookie, he simply said, "I have too mcuh work to do" - and didn't volunteer to just allow me to play hookie! The nerve!!
I know, as I've said before, I'm lucky in these 'economic times' to be employed, but, I really wish I were somewhere else.
Item 2. I haven't given up on my dream of living on Maui.
I think I could work at just about anything if I were in that setting! Sending resume's to every business in Maui hasn't panned out! If anybody has connections...hook a sister up!!
I have been buying a powerball ticket two times a week. I know, I should be saving that $8 each and put it in the "Maui jar", with the pennies that I mentioned in this post and I'd be closer to that goal!! Recall, I only need 32.5 million...
Maybe my luck will change!
Item 3. My pond is a mess.
I have to etch out some time - okay, I've decided tonight's the night! I'm going to get it done!
Item 4. Other people's blogs.
I follow 4 very closely and I love reading them, but, I can't compete. I had to figure out why I decided to blog myself. I don't blog for "the masses" (although if someone read it that would be okay too). I write for me. I am not terribly interesting, not well spoken (or written) as in the case of a blog. I am what and who I am and so I'll just continue to write for me. The number of people that visit may someday suprise me, but if it doesn't that's okay too. I can watch my new grandbaby grow with my new babystrology widget from my blog and I'm content with that!
Item 5. Relationships are hard.
I work at mine, relationships ARE hard, and I worry about my children's.
Item 6. Little boys.
Cayden and Gabriel - I adore them, sometimes I give in too much to them, but I TRULY can't help it. Is it turning them into little brats? There honestly is NOTHING they can do that I don't love. I have to try harder at sometimes saying 'no'. That too will be hard!
Okay, I think that's everything in my head.
Until next time...
Carol
The nerve!!

Not Me Monday
Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.
Well, it has been a week since my last theraputic Not Me Monday confession...so, settle in and read about what I haven't been up to this week!
I did not show Cayden my tattoo while he was coloring with his markers, most certainly giving him the idea to create his own tattoo. He makes the cutest airplanes (that look like little crosses) I didn’t encourage him to be creative and let him make leg, arm and tummy tattoos whereby annoying the crap out of Papa, because it drives him insane when the boys use the markers on paper (if it were up to him we would NEVER have bought the markers in the first place), leave alone when they use them to make (the cutest ever) tattoos!!
While I was at work (at my part time job) just a few minutes after the kitchen closed and the grill was turned off, one of my co-workers (from my full time job) came in and asked if he could order a burger. In the spirit of good customer service I told him “SURE”…well, I turned the grill on and threw on the burger and bacon on. After 10 minutes the burger wasn’t getting cooked…nor was the bacon – I realized that the pilot light on the grill wasn’t burning. Well, he’d waited a LONG time for his burger so, to comply with customer satisfaction I wouldn’t have dreamt to put the burger down in the deep fryer for a second or two to get it cooked, and then I wouldn’t dream of throwing it back onto the grill and put cheese on it and then deep fried the bacon & apply to the cheese to get it melty. I would never
I would never get caught up in a movie causing me to be awake until 5:00 in the morning, when I have to babysit the Cayden & Gabriel at 5:30. Thankfully they fell back to sleep and I was able to get a couple of hours of rest before our day began….I just know that I would never allow myself to stay awake half the night whereby requiring a nap in the afternoon with the boys!
I wouldn’t have gotten dressed in my long underwear, three shirts, all of my leather (chaps, coat & boots) putting on my bandana and tying up my hoodie to ride (on the back) of my bike and travel 40 miles to a church service and a blessing of the bikes in 45 degree frigid air – risking pneumonia for the sake of the bike blessing, man…it was super cold!!
None of that stuff happens in “real life” – for sure not to me…
Until next time...

Aloha Friday #6
Common Sense Smart ... I didn't have the opportunity to go to college, and everything I've learned has been through the school of hard knocks.
My question for this week is:
When you're in a bad 'funk' what do you do to cheer yourself up??

Where have I been???
So, it has been a while since I’ve blogged and thought it was time for me to update.
The past few days / week have / has been abusy time blur.
Last Wednesday I got exactly what Ineeded wanted for Mother’s Day from Lindsey & the boys – my new hair dryer and curling iron. Thanks Lindsey, you’re the best!!!
The cards I got were just perfect too. The card I got from the boys was signed “Love, Cayden & Gabriel AND in really super small print – so small I didn’t notice it – at all… & “Baby #3”. Did I mention that the “The “Baby #3” was super small and I missed it because it was written super small & maybe because I wasn’t wearing my glasses…
Then after I opened the gifts & cards Lindsey bathed the boys. It was written super small and totally subtly….
So, when Gabriel came out of the tubby he was wearing a shirt that read, “I’m the big brother” – I simply asked Lindsey why Gabe was wearing Cayden’s shirt. She told me that it wasn’t Cayden’s shirt, rather they (she & Dave) had made that one for Gabriel earlier in the week!!!
DUH…Gabriel was going to be a BIG Brother….that’s how we found out she was expecting.
She then redirectedmy blind ass me to the card – to read ‘Baby #3’ noted in super small print there!!!
Check out the Babystrology Widget in my sidebar and keep track of “Baby #3”!!
We’re going to be grandparents again in January 2010!!
Next, Kevin & I departed on Saturday morning for a motorcycle trip to Oklahoma…yes, I said Oklahoma! We rode 688 (or so) miles on Saturday, arriving in Muskogee, Oklahoma to visit Tyler & Amanda for the weekend.
We spent Sunday at OK Castle Renaissance Festival having a super fun time. Eating everything we saw and had a couple of beers while enjoying the shows!
Tyler & Amanda got me a really cool leather beer mug for Mother’s Day, which I’ll treasure forever. I may not drink from it daily…because it’s HUGE. I’ll save it for our annual trips to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival – it will save me so (SO) many trips to buy beer!!
On Monday morning we ‘saddled up’ and rode back 688 (or so) miles. We arrived at my favorite ‘watering hole’ (Bridget’s Bucksnorts Brew-Ha-Ha and Grill) around 9:30pm to our own welcoming party – Kevin Kiehl & Stan & Shirley!! We had a few drinks before heading home for some MUCH needed sleep!
I know…that was a LONG ride just for the weekend!
People (I can’t tell you how many people) told us it was impossible to make that trip in 3 days and insane to attempt that many miles in one weekend and….on and on…..but, we made it!!!
I’m back to work now and remember why it sucks to take even just one day off – I’m backed up, behind and I don’t have the timeI NEED I’d love to take catching up with other blogs I follow -- leave alone the time to focus on this one!!
I need some back up here in the office – or to find another way to earn an income working less hours and allowing more time for blogging!!
Until then…

Wild Turkeys Have Beards
Did you know that wild turkeys have beards?
Sometimes the small stuff pushes me to the edge.
Have you ever wanted something so badly, dreamed something so big & the truth of the matter is that you know in your heart of hearts that it will never come to be – and get really sad about the actuality of that?
I love my home, it is the house I grew up in, I’ve got the same phone number I’ve had my entire life, I love being close to my daughter who lives across the street, BUT I want to move to Maui, work & live in paradise and ride my motorcycle EVERY day!!
Have you ever been in the car running an errand and think to yourself that you should forget the errand and just drive. I mean just go, keep going, driving off to nowhere in particular - just disappearing? And, then do you wonder how the people around you – close to you - your children, your grandchildren, your spouse, your co-workers would react if you were just suddenly gone? Could they function without you…
I am employed, that is more than I can say for hundreds of thousands of people in these trying economic times who have become laid off because their company was downsized, etc. BUT I wish someone else here knew how to do what I do so I could take some time very necessary off!
I simply adore my grandchildren, I love to spend time with them, play with them, spoil them rotten BUT I don’t like the threat to have them taken totheir father the sperm donor when I would like a weekend of babysitting off!
I don’t eat very healthily, drink to much, sleep too little, work too hard, love with my whole heart, swear a lot, don’t exercise enough, miss my mother and really believe the grass is greener…
I know, there are people with sick children, physical ailments, mortgage/financial problems – people in much more difficult situations than mine, BUT, this is my pity party so I’m going to pout if I want to!!
No, really, wild turkeys do have beards!
Until next time…

Not Me Monday
Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.
Well, it's been a rather uneventful week at the Olsen ranch (okay, we don't have a ranch it's just a figure of speech) but, in the spirit of Not Me Monday I had to confess just a few things. It is kind of theraputic - so here goes:
I have not been following Stellan’s progress throughout his recent trip to Boston and I have not prayed every day for him to be healthy, Nope – not me!
I, being a lazy daisy Nana, wouldn’t think of letting Cayden & Gabriel have Easter Peeps, the little yellow marshmellowy chickens for their (first) breakfast on Sunday so I could lay on the sofa and rest a bit longer, No Way – Not Me!
I wouldn’t blow off doing the yard work so I could put just under one hundred miles on my Harley on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, Yep - Not Me!
I would never in a million years have my wonderful husband start a fire in our backyard fireplace, invite several of my motorcycle riding friends over for a beer or two and tell them (even the men) about my period – who talks to their friends (especially the men ones) about that!? DEFINITELY Not Me!!
I do not refresh my blog page about a hundred times a day to keep in touch with my ‘blogger friends’, mostly strangers that I’ve never actually met (but would love to one day), whose lives seem much more interesting than mine, ABSOLUTELY Not Me!!
Until next time….

Some things bug me ~ and some things don't
Last night I was talking to Lindsey on the phone when her boyfriend Dave and Gabriel drove up in front of our house. Lindsey wondered what they were doing there, because she was in the middle of making dinner and had sent him to the grocery to pick up a few things!
Well, Dave unloaded Gabriel from his car seat and helped him deliver these…
It was a super sweet gesture!!
Because Gabriel cannot articulate his feelings yet – remember he’s still at ‘oof oof oof’ talking to the puppies on his p-jams? – Dave simply said, in his best ventriloquist for Gabriel voice “here Nana these are for watching me when mommy & Dave were on vacation!”
Don't they look like they were having fun?
Wow, I told Lindsey that I already liked Dave & he didn’t need to bribe me with flowers.
This is what bugs me – Lindsey had been married to acreep very immature man boy, who did sire her children, and for that I will be eternally grateful, however, he never brought me flowers!!
He, come to think of it, never brought Lindsey flowers!!
Dave definitely doesn’t bug me!
Until next time…

Morning Conversations
I was awakened this morning, the first time with “Mom, the boys are here!!” being shouted up the stairs. Shit, I overslept.
Luckily I was able to get the boys back to sleep, Gabriel all cozied up in his crib and Cayden snuggled in between Nana & Papa.
I was awakened later by Gabriel. I heard his sweet voice, having a conversation, “oof – oof – oof” as he is barking to the puppies on his p-jams. So cute.
I looked at the alarm clock. Shit, I overslept – again!
I called in to work to let them know I was running behind. That is never a good conversation to have with your boss 5 minutes before you’re supposed to be at work!!
After showering, dressing myself, I got Gabe ready for daycare! Our conversation went something like: “come here Gabriel” I gave him the once over with the baby wipes, new diaper, “stay put Gabriel” on with the jeans, (now take them off), snap the onesie – “sit still Gabriel” , back on with the jeans (over the onesie this time), socks “Pew, stinky” (as I sniff his adorable little feet to make him giggle), put on his sneaks – “good job Gabriel”. He is always so happy in the morning, not much help with dressing….but, happy.
Now, next is Cayden. I go scoop him up, carry him downstairs, pull off his puppy p-jams (they dress alike a lot), change his diaper – he’s beginning to wake up, not a morning person (a lot like Nana). He asks me “Nana, is it morning-time?” I answer “yes, unfortunately it is”. I put on his jeans and his brand new shirt with the gecko’s that change colors when exposed to sunlight – mommy brought it back from her vacation. I put on his socks & sneaks and then he asks me “Nana, can you pick me up from Cara’s today?” I tell him “your mommy will pick you up today but, that Nana will come over to your house when I get off of work”, he says, “Okay”. I put on his jacket and he asked me, “Nana, can I bring all of my aminals (I didn’t spell it wrong, that’s how he says it) to Cara’s – even my dolphin?” I say “certainly”, we brought them all! On the way to the car he asks “where is Papa”, I tell him “Papa is at work”, he says, “I want to see Papa”. I tell him “I’ll bring Papa when I come over after work”, he says, “okay”. We continue chattering all the way to Cara’s house. He woke up in a good mood today and we had a nice conversation!
Life is good!

Not Me Monday
Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.
The week of babysitting Cayden and Gabriel has come to an end. Their mommy, Lindsey (& Dave), got home from the Bahama’s cruise yesterday!
During her absence Kevin & I had a great time (mostly) with the boys.
I did not entertain the boys by allowing them to play (and get their clothes really dirty) in a big pile of dirt – which happens to be right next to a 3 foot trench (which, thankfully they didn’t fall into) – No, Not Me!!
I did not let Cayden pick whatever he wanted for lunch and ultimately serve him cheese sandwiches made on angelfood cake! And I would never allow Gabriel to use the steak knife to cut his corn dogs up with just to avoid another screaming fit (I mean, cute little tantrum, which would only make my already bad headache worse)!! No, Not Me!
I didn’t stay in my p.j.’s, and keep Cayden adorned in just his diaper – and Gabe in a t-shirt while wearing Papa’s Harley Cap - on Saturday because we wanted to be cozy all day. …No, Not Us!!
I did not put Gabriel into the laundry bag, because it was super funny and made us all laugh looking at him through it. He loved being swung from papa to his mommy...laughter filled the room. We'd never put the funniest baby in the world into the laundry bag for our selfish humor. Nope, Not Us!
And, we would NEVER take a trip to Saint Paul (3 hours in the car with two little children) just for dinner and to spend an exorbanent amount of money just to see our fantastic 3rd born son Dayton and enjoy the wonderful food offered at his restaurant...okay, it's not his - but, he is a contributing chef there! I would NEVER spend $5.50 for a beer, and DEFINATLEY not 3!! No Not Me!
We would not continue to pray for Stellan and the whole MckFamily every day (except we do). I don't think about Stellan, Jennifer, Prince Charming, and the other many small children almost too often...No Not Me!
There, I've been brutally honest and think you should do the same! It's so refreshing to unload like that, almost theraputic!! :) Have a great week!
Until next time...

Crazy Knife Wielding Scavenger
Weird. Really – it was…
Twice a year Waste Management (our garbage collection company) offers “city wide clean up”. Well, thankfully they do – because twice a year (although it could be more often) is a good start to cleaning out all of my years and years of acquired clutter!
Anyhoo… I started making a pile on the front boulevard: old car seat, broken highchair, small refrigerator (which would be perfect for your garage – hopefully someone picks it up, it is in working condition – or else they will charge me to take it!) … back to the point…I made a large pile of stuff. Cayden & Gabriel were being so ‘helpful’ while I carried stuff out. They rode their bikes and played with the ‘garbage’ – who knew that the exer-saucer is still a fun toy even after they’ve outgrown it!
I brought the boys inside for a bite to eat and while slicing the Velveeta (they love cheese) I noticed a “crazy knife wielding scavenger”…rummaging through my neighbor’s pile of stuff that they’d put out on their lawn! She really did have a knife! I wasn’t really weirded out at that point, but then I noticed the “crazy knife wielding scavenger”… moving to my other neighbor’s pile, the neighbor right NEXT DOOR to me. Again, out comes her knife. Did I mention that she had a big knife – now that it was closer, I noticed just exactly how big it was!! I observed her…she was cutting the electrical cords off of all appliances, toasters, hair dryers, steam/vacuum cleaners, anything with a cord…. And, now she was moving towards my REFRIGERATOR !!
REMEMBER – IT STILL WORKS (and would be so perfect for your garage – for SOMEONE to pick up and take home and love – REMEMBER …. or else I get charged by Waste Management for them to take it!!)
“NO…”CRAZY KNIFE WEILDING SCAVENGER”….YOU CANNOT CUT THE CORD OFF OF MY REFRIGERATOR!!”…. After all, it’s MY garbage – right?? Okay, I’m thinking to myself – self - who’s the crazy one now… Well, I told her – scared her off to the next pile across the street. My refrigerator complete with cord – untouched!
Okay…it gets better – or weirder, however you look at it....
I evidently wasn’t the ONLY one who noticed her knife – someone else called the authorities! The next thing I noticed are 2 Sherriff cars, 2 City Police cars – 4 officers total – AND the neighbor (who lives across the street, who coincidently is also a Sherriff) all of whom are now out chatting with the “crazy knife wielding scavenger!”
She, apparently, was not merely a “crazy knife wielding scavenger” …rather she was a “crazy knife wielding scavenging recycler” and was collecting electrical cords to recycle the copper inside the wires!
So, the authorities made sure that she was NOT the one who recently ‘knocked off’ our cities water department – taking all of the copper wires from all of the water pumps at our water maintenance facility. Evidently she wasn’t that crazy – and so, much to Cayden’s dismay they let her go – he really wanted to see all those police use their handcuffs…but, that’s an altogether different post!!
Until next time…
Carol

Aloha Friday #4
Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. The An Island Life blog has a tradition to take it easy with posting, too. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, as well. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.
If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!
My question is:
How do you get followers to your blog?

Cayden
My grandson Cayden had his dentist appointment yesterday (which I’ll discuss in another post), at the operating room – because of his heart condition…
Cayden was born with a heart condition – namely, Aortic Valve Stenosis, he was diagnosed when he was just a few minutes old.
His cardiologist, Dr. Stamato, is a wonderful pediatric cardiologist here at Sioux Valley Children’s Clinic in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She has always explained everything about Cayden’s condition very thoroughly to us so we fully understand. She is patient with us and the millions of questions we initially asked and she continues to work closely with our local Sanford doctors to make certain they are abreast of what is going on with Cayden also.
I recall several scary moments that my daughter went through with Cayden, when he was so tiny. The procedures, the possibility of immediate surgery, the tests… And I remember wondering ‘why him’? why her? And, looking back – I realize it was (and continues to be) in God’s hands.
Cayden has regular cardiology check-ups and they will continue to monitor his valve, heart and overall condition, and Cayden will someday have to have a procedure done – called Balloon Valvuloplasty you can read more about it here
I like the way Dr. Stamato explained it…”I don’t have a crystal ball, he may have the procedure when he’s six, or sixteen or sixty – or something in between, but he will have to have something done – we just don’t know when”. We pray it is much later, when he’s older, rather than sooner.
I just read MckMama’s latest post “Peace in the storm” – I just think how unfair life seems sometimes. Little Stellan is a trooper and he’s heading to Boston! I will continue to pray for his recovery as I’d like to request you do the same!
I pray that all parents of children with heart conditions (or any condition – for that matter) can find MckMama's “Peace in the storm”!
Until next time…

Will I ever learn?
TGIF!
I have been wandering around some blogs this afternoon and I posed myself a couple of questions.
When someone leaves a comments to one of my blogs (which doesn't happen often - but when it does) I like to respond - but, how? If I comment there - I comment to myself not to them. What am I missing?? Man, I'm not inept, I'm just most definately a novice at this. I'll keep looking for the 'leave a comment' to the comment button...
In the mean time Mariah - thank you for perusing my list! Sage is the color of my bedroom walls and the living room and the dining room and the computer/scrapbooking/sewing room. No, seriously I love it.
How do I get a link into a post so if someone clicks on that word that is highlighted it takes them magically somewhere else? Trust me, I've tried ... and maybe it's just me?!
Do blogger people carry their camera's along EVERYWHERE they go? I have decided that I need more pictures incorporated into my blog.
This is something I'm going to work on.
1. Find my camera
2. learn how to use my camera
3. figure out how to transfer photos to the computer
4. figure out how to upload to my blog.
I better get busy - this could take all weekend (and part of next week)!
I have all of this stuff to do - I better get going...
Until next time...

You Capture
Well, I did it!!
I captured a shadow.
I downloaded my photos from my camera to my computer.
I e-mailed the photo to my e-mail at work (because I didn't have time to post it to my blog during lunch break).
I was going to take a 'break' this afternoon and post my photo...WELL...
I sent the WRONG photo.
Is it acceptable for me to upload a You Capture "Wednesday" photo on FRIDAY?? I'll attempt to send the RIGHT photo tonight!
Until next time...

50, no... 40, no... Okay…20 (Interesting) Things About Me…
I’ve read this type of list among others on people's blog pages and thought I’d try to see if there were 50 interesting things about me. Here goes nothing...
1. I love putting lots of miles on my Harley Davidson motorcycle each year – which can be a chore given the weather in Minnesota and the riding season being 5 months short.
2. I have taken classes and learned how to make stained glass pieces, I love working at anything creative. In addition to the stained glass ‘skills’ I love scrapbooking and I’ve made each of my grandson’s a quilt made out of the clothing they wore from birth to 12 months.
3. I adore the island of Maui. It is my aspiration to live there one day! See my blog about how I intend to afford my condo there…
4. I’ve had just 3 bones in my body broken. Age 3 – broken collar bone; age 5 – broken arm; age 42, 43 & 44 – broken tailbone (yup – broke that one 3 consecutive years in a row)
5. I have three tattoos. Which I designed myself – they’re unique to me and I love them all!
6. I live in the house I grew up in and have the same phone number I had when I was 5 years old. I have lived away from Minnesota but, came back ‘home’ in 1998.
7. My youngest son, Dayton was born (22 years ago) in West Germany. He had dual citizenship until he was 18 years old.
8. I am an extrovert.
9. I love the way the brown Crayola crayon smells.
10. I can mix the best Bloody Mary from scratch!
11. I was in a contest and won a convertible – it was just about as fun riding with the top down as it is riding my motorcycle.
12. My favorite color is sage green.
13. I can speak very broken German.
14. I have pretty low tolerance to alcohol. I’m pretty intoxicated after just a couple of drinks.
15. I love being outside.
16. I can type 60 words per minute.
17. My favorite outfit is jeans and a hoodie.
18. Some of my favorite moments are spent camping with my friends, playing cards/games with my children and spending time watching “Balto” (any of his favorite movies really…again and again and again) with Cayden.
19. I hate shopping. Any kind of shopping – don’t like it!
20. I am ALWAYS cold!
Well, that sums it up…I can’t think of 50 things, maybe I’ll try it another time. I may not have gotten very detailed about any one item, but if you see something and think it might be interesting to get further details don’t hesitate to ask me about it!!
I am going to try to begin participating in You Capture – it looks like fun. Now, if I can figure out my camera…..
Until next time…

Regarding Tuesday, Comments & Grandbabies
* Today is Tuesday.
* I have only 1 comment on my last blog entry.
* I love my Grandbabies.
* In addition to it being Tuesday, it is a holiday – St. Patrick’s Day.
I woke, babysat, showered, got dressed in my “Are You Feeling Lucky” green t-shirt shirt, dropped the boys at daycare, came to work, ran errands (for work) found a penny (heads up) put it in my left shoe.
I’ll get off work, babysit, drink a green beer (well, it will be Amber Bock and NOT green), play outside with the boys & eventually take off my “Are You Feeling Lucky” green t-shirt and go to bed!
And, it will have been a very lucky day! Every day that I get to play with those guys is Lucky!
* I have only 1 comment on my last blog entry – enough said!
* The boys got new shoes about a week ago. Those new shoes got dirty – REALLY dirty when they played at Nana’s house on Sunday. Mommy got angry – REALLY angry - at Nana!
We’re going to get dirty again today – they LOVE being outside - I told their mommy to bring their boots today!
Man, I love those guys!
Until next time…

Not Me Monday
Not Me! Monday
Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.
I always dress Cayden and Gabriel appropriately for playing outside in the spring mud. They are wearing their mud boots and play coats. I would never let them get thier brand new white adidas sneakers muddy for the sake of having too much fun riding tricycle! No, Not Me!
I wouldn't cave in to Cayden's request to purchase the special mini cupcakes he spied as we were walking through the produce section at the grocery. Why do they put cupcakes and cheesecake - that section - near the produce anyway?? I wouldn't let those cupcakes to spoil his lunch! No, Not Me!
I did not let Gabriel get covered with chocolate cupcake with WAY too much icing for a baby. I wouldn't let him have seconds because they were mini cupcakes. No, Not Me!

Aloha Friday
Thanks to Kailani at An Island Life for starting Aloha FridayKailani says:
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response. If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link here. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new blogging friends!
My question for this week?
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
I love orange sherbet - that is ice cream, right??

Dirty Little Beggar - and, I'm NOT talking about the dog!
I recently tried to get an e-mail chain going...People don't really like chain e-mails or chain letters do they?
Well, I've decided to put a copy of the content of that e-mail here on my blog - you just never know!
and, for security reasons I've decided NOT to include my address here - but, if you want to send the penny...send me an e-mail and I'll get you the address!!
Good morning!
Well, as you all know Kevin & I recently went on a once in a lifetime vacation to Maui. And, we love the island so much that we would like to purchase a condo there. But, housing is very expensive in Hawaii!!
I heard about a kid once, who paid his entire college tuition by taking an ad out in the New York Times (or some other huge newspaper). His ad got the attention of the mass media and so on....he placed the ad asking for every reader to send him just $.01 cent because ... honestly who can't spare just $.01 cent? (he even had people sending him WHOLE dollars!)
I would like to do something similar....however, using the internet.
I'll ask you each to spare just $.01 cent - you can give it to me the next time you see me. I wouldn't want you waste your postage (that's $.42 cents - which could also go to "the cause") -
And for this to work I'll need you to simply forward this e-mail to just 10 people (or everyone in your address book) and, then before you know it this e-mail request will have traveled around the globe (and the world wide web) ..... & envelopes will be coming in from around the world containing just one small penny.....and Kevin & I will soon have enough pennies to purchase our dream home in Hawaii!
p.s.
I've enclosed my address below - so people know where to send their pennies!
AND.....we only need 32.5 million pennies!
Dirty little beggar...well, I've been called worse! :)
Until next time...

My blog page is in it's infancy. When it grows up it wants to have 500 comments every day!
How can anybody keep up with all those comments?
Completely different subject - love the randomness...
One day last fall Kevin & I traveled with Cayden & Gabriel to see their great grandmother - Kevin's mother. She hadn't seen the 'baby' and he was about ready to have his first birthday. At any rate when we got to the assisted living facilty where she lives to see her, she admired the boys. "How cute" they both were!! And, then asked us if that was Gabriel's initials on his shirt - "GAP" - Kevin & I both laughed (to ourselves - so as not to hurt her feelings...) (Gabriel's initials are GMM)
That has kind of become a joke now...
My daughter (the favorite one) went shopping on her day off and bought the boys more clothes. The next question is why more clothes??
The next question would be what did she buy me?? (she is my favorite daughter) - kidding...
Cayden has always had tons of clothes - since birth he was a bit spoiled...
We can't figure out why Gabriel cannot wear Cayden's old clothes - he has thousands...
Anyway - they got new clothes! Gabriel's mostly say "GAP" and have monkeys, bears, puppies etc on them and Cayden's have tractors, graders, wrecking balls, cars or sports themes.
Ahem..and then there are the ones that match - Luce Magoose loves to dress them alike! It is kind of cute! :)
The clothes are adorable and the kids too - as soon as I figure out how to use my digital camera and upload photographs that I've taken I'll do that!
Until next time...

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to http://www.mycharmingkids.net">her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.
I've finally mustered up the courage to join the carnival.
It wasn't me who left the office to run errands this morning and made that one small stop by my home to get one more hug and kiss from Kevin - to get my day started, AGAIN. I love you Kevin!! Needed one more hug and kiss. Not me...
Breakfast this morning did not include eating a big chunk of angel food cake. I have no will power - where angel food cake is concerned. I left the girl scout cookies alone!! Eating cake for breakfast. Not me...
Until next time...

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to http://www.mycharmingkids.net">her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.
I've mustered up the courage to join the carnival!
While out running errands this morning (bank, post office, bakery...every day) for the office, it wasn't me who stopped by my house so I could get one more kiss for the day....I love you Kevin!! Needed one more kiss. Not me...
I have not recently felt the NEED to have an Amber Bock during lunch - to make it possible for me to bear being with my boss at the office and to get me through the afternoon at work. Beer for lunch (just one). Not me...
I have also not spent hours online blogging while 'looking busy' at my extraordinarily boring job! Blogging at work! Not me...
I have not complained to Kevin for hours on end about how my boss makes me crazy....or maybe I was crazy before I started working here & he just brings it to the surface!! Complained to Kevin. Not me...
I don't make it a habit read the online classifieds, polished my resume, sent aforementioned resume to potential employers from the office. Not me...
This morning I did not have a slice of angelfood cake for breakfast. Not me...
Until next time...

My question - How many pairs of shoes do you own and how many of them do you actually wear?
I have about 50 pair and actually wear 4! It's a shame...they're all so cute!
Until next time...

The Sleep-over...
I spent the evening last night with the boys. "Gab-y” (combination of Gabriel and Baby - which Cayden has called him since birth) fell asleep at 8:30. Cayden fell asleep in my arms at around 9:00p.m. Since we babysit every morning I told Lindsey (my favorite daughter) to just let them have a sleep-over! No hesitation - she gladly agreed to leave them overnight! Saving her from taking them out in the cold after they were already cozily sleeping and then waking them in the morning to take them back out in the cold….you get it!
They both slept all night….I didn’t see them again until this morning!!
I was awakened this morning to a sweet little voice saying “Nee-na” – I responded with “Nana is in here” and Cayden came bounding into our bedroom.
He normally loves snuggling & being lazy and cozy - much like his Nana - but, this morning Cayden (commonly referred to as “Thing 1”- as coined by Uncle D at Christmastime) wanted Nana to get up!
It didn’t take long for his chatter to awaken “Thing 2” (his brother Gabriel). Well, as Papa attempted to take the boys down to begin getting ready for the day, they just couldn’t see that happening…so I had two little chaperones while I was showering!
While I was dressing Cayden told me he was “hun-ry”, of course he was!!! Ever try to convince a toddler that he is NOT going to starve to death in the time it takes to apply my mascara!! So…I am at work today with my hair NOT styled….there wasn’t time for everything – and I NEEDED the mascara!
The race began…we ran downstairs and got them dressed for the day, teeth brushed (mute point), shoes and coats on, tossed them a Flintstones vitamin and filled a couple of sandwich bags with “sugar” (a.k.a. Lucky Charms – see why brushing was mute). We arrived at day care right at 8a.m. – Nana got to work her “normal time” – 15 minutes late!!
I wouldn’t have changed a minute about the sleep-over – except next time I’ll grab a bag of sugar for Nana too!!
Until next time….

Things Happen in Three's…
Some people speculate that Things Happen in Three's. This can be either positive or negative in suggestion. "Good things come in three's." - To win money once is to win it three times. On the flip side… "Bad things come in three's." - This often refers to hearing about one death as two more follow in a short period of time.
Well…here are my thoughts on the subject
I’ve had one bone broken three separate times…most recently – last night!
In my opinion, it’s the worst bone in the human body to break – there is no treatment for it, no cast available - it just has to heal on its own, in its own sweet time!
I think I’m tough; I spent 44 hours in labor once - thanks Ty, and went on to have two more children; I suffered a second degree (well maybe that’s an exaggeration) sunburn from the tanning salon - next time maximum 10 minutes paleface and I have worn those pointy shoes with the 3 inch heel for a full 8 hours….but, maybe I’m not a match for this tailbone!!
Well, I’m going to count on things happening in three’s!
That means that this should be the last time I’ll have to spend two weeks sitting on an ice pack and suffering through the embarrassment of carrying my donut to sit on work!
You don’t realize how much you ‘use’ that bone….until it’s broken.
p.s. don’t sneeze!!
Until next time…
